Morgantown, WV, United States (4E) – The West Virginia nonprofit director who called First Lady Michelle Obama an ape in heels has been fired from her job weeks after she made the comment.

The official, identified as Pamela Taylor, who was the director of the Clay County Development Corp., was fired after officials wanted to watch nonprofit organizations closer by placing it under a state agency. It was also partly prompted due to her November Facebook post. In the post, Taylor celebrated the incoming First Lady Melania Trump then calling Obama an ape in heels.

The exact statement reads, “It will be so refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady back in the White House. I’m tired of seeing a Ape in heels.” Due to the negative light that Taylor was under, Robert Roswall , the commissioner for the West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services, said that it exposed the loopholes on how the organization was being managed.

The Clay County Development Corp. is required to have open meetings, respond to public records request, and to have nondiscrimination policies. Roswall added, “We started getting lots of reports about different things that we were checking. There was little things popping up all over.”

The Appalachian Area Agency on Aging will now manage the Clay County Development Corp. for six months. Necessary changes will then be made to make sure that the nonprofit organization is following the conditions set by the contract with the state. A new director will also be hired.

Taylor was suspended last month after the comments she made and was supposed to return to work last Friday. The agreement that the Clay County Development Corp. will be under the Appalachian Area Agency on Aging was approved on the same day that she was supposed to be back for work.

Aside from Taylor, Clay Mayor Beverly Whaling resigned from her post after she faced backlash. She commented on Taylor’s post saying that the comparison between Trump and Obama made her day. Whaling explained later that she did not mean to be racist.
