Dallas, TX, United States (4E) – A suburban Dallas firefighter captain was found shot to death and police officials arrested his wife, who has been charged with conspiring to kill him.

47-year-old Bob Poynter was shot dead in his truck on Friday evening. A woman was reportedly trying to flag down cars on a county road in order to seek help for Poynter . Poynter was the fire captain with the University Park Fire Department.

The woman was identified as 29-year-old Chacey Poynter and she told police officials that her husband was shot and was in the vehicle when officers arrived at the scene. It was determined that Bob died of a single gunshot wound. Chacey was arrested a day after as she reportedly gave conflicting statements when questioned.

Chacey remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail. Another person was arrested as witnesses said that they saw him with Chacey while she was trying to get help for her husband. The man, 37-year-old Michael Garza, turned himself in after an arrest warrant was put out. Garza was charged with murder and is also being held at the Hunt County Jail. There is no information available yet regarding the relationship of Garza to the Poynters .

Chacey and Bob have a daughter, who just started first grade. It is unclear who is taking care of the child now. A neighbor named Judy Dixon shared, “I’m beside myself. I can’t believe it because they were both a sweet and nice couple as far as we could see.” She added that the couple just returned from a vacation in Mexico.

The case is still under investigation.
