Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (NewsBahn) – U.S. swimmer Ryan Lochte has been called to Rio for a hearing on the false robbery story he reportedly made up to cover up vandalism he and teammates allegedly did on a gas station restroom.
Detective Clemente Braune , who is heading up the investigation, said Lochte can’t give his testimony in the United States.
The gas station owner is expected to testify in the matter in which authorities said Lochte , Jimmy Feigen , Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz did the damage to the bathroom before armed guards stopped them and demanded they pay for it.
“We depend on this measure of cooperation, but he has to come to Brazil and testify in court,” Braune told ESPN Brazil of Lochte . who has said he takes responsibility for the event.
Lochte then changed his story and said he ” overexaggerated “.
“That’s why I’m taking full responsibility for it, because I overexaggerated the story,” Lochte told NBC. “If I had never done that, we wouldn’t be in this mess.”
There’s no word as to whether Lochte will cooperate with the investigation.
