Tampa Bay, FL, United States (4E) – A pit bull attacked his owner and two more people inside a home after the owner tried to make the pet dog put on a Christmas sweater.
Police officials said that the pit bull was named Scarface and was owned by 56-year-old Brenda Guerrero. Scarface bit Guerrero in the arm and then attacked the two other family members who were in the backyard. They lived in Tampa, Florida. The attack took place on Friday.
The granddaughter of Guerrero, Tina Harris, said that her grandmother underwent surgery after being bit. She is still at the Tampa General Hospital and is recovering from her wounds. Harris noted, “She’s doing much better because she can finally move and talk.” Harris also said that the dog has never acted aggressively towards Guerrero.
The other two people attacked were 46-year-old Ismael , her husband, and her son, Antonio Harris, 22. They tried to stop the dog but they were both attacked by the pit bull. Antonio is said to have stabbed Scarface in the head and the neck using a knife. The family was then able to escape and Scarface was left in the backyard.
Animal Control was called to the scene and a stun gun was used to subdue the pet. A catch pole was also used to capture the animal. Officer Eddy Durkin said in a statement, “When they tased the dog, the dog was still pulling away and was able to release the prongs from the Taser .” It remains unclear if the dog has been euthanized.
Neighbors are saying that the family just got the dog in December but the dog never attacked anyone on the street whenever it got out. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
