Columbus, OH, United States (4E Sports) – Ohio State announced that it has suspended wide receiver Torrance Gibson from school for the fall semester and the season due to violation of the university’s student code of conduct.
However, head football coach Urban Meyer disagreed with the move, saying it was not a decision made by the athletic department or the football program.
“It was not athletic department or football,” said Meyer, who met with the media about an hour later to preview Ohio State’s opener with Bowling Green. “I disagree with it.”
When asked about his next step regarding the university’s decision, Meyer replied: “I don’t know”.
“It’s not unique,” Meyer said. “We have dealt with it.”
Meyer did not provide any detail about the suspension while the university has not commented on the nature of Gibson’s violation.
A former quarterback, Gibson shifted to wide receiver last year due to a logjam in he depth chart.
In April, Gibson capped off a productive month with six catches for 50 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the spring game.
