West Allis, WI, United States (4E) – A 14-year-old boy from West Allis is now facing charges regarding an incident wherein two other teens were killed during an attempted armed robbery.
The robbery took place last February 12 and the other boys who died were brothers. The suspect was identified as Spence Lewis. He is now facing two counts of first degree reckless homicide, use of a dangerous weapon, attempted armed robbery, and use of force. Lewis appeared at a children’s court on Wednesday but it was announced that he will be charged as an adult.
As per the criminal complaint, the incident took place at a home near 89th and Grant. Shell casing was found on the floor of the home when they entered as well as blanket and a large amount of blood. One of the victims, 17-year-old Trajan Edwards, was still taken to a hospital but died after two days. The other brother, 19-year-old CJ Edwards, was seen dead in the kitchen of the home.
A .40 caliber Smith & Wesson casing was located near the body of CJ and a second casing was also found in the same area. A black polymer back strap from a firearm was located in a hallway near the entrance of the home’s living room. The other casings were found in the living room. A duffle bag and a hammer were also recovered.
The mother of CJ and Trajan said Lewis has been coming over to their home and slept over for at least one night. On the day of the shooting, the mother of the two teens said she heard Trajan playing video games in the living room and heard Lewis come into their home and went to the bathroom.
Later, Trajan was heard saying, “Spencer, Spencer, what you doing man?,” to which the latter replied saying, “I ain’t doing (expletive).” A little later, the mother heard noises in the living room and saw Trajan grabbing his upper chest and was bleeding. Another shot was heard and saw CJ fighting with Lewis before he fell onto the ground. The mother called 911 and Lewis fled from the home.
Authorities arrested Lewis after a standoff. Another teenager, 13 years old, was also taken into custody. the 13-year-old reportedly told investigators that the suspect told him he had a friend who had a lot of marijuana, money, and video games and there was a plan to rob that friend, whom the 13-year-old identified as Tra , possibly referring to Trajan .
The 13-year-old added that the night before the attempted robbery and shooting, they planned to rob the victim and leave some marijuana so cops won’t be called. The 13-year-old said he had a knife on him while Lewis had two magazines. The plan to push through with the robbery the night before was not materialized after the two teens forgot the bag they were supposed to put the stolen things in.
The 13-year-old was also at the home at the time of the attempted robbery and shooting but fled after the 14-year-old suspect fired at Trajan . It is unclear if the 13-year-old will also be charged. No other details for the court appearances have been released.
