Hollywood, CA, United States (4E) – Fifty six new Disney flicks will now be available for streaming via Hulu after a new exclusive streaming deal was agreed upon by the two companies.
The theatrical film catalog has expanded after the new 56 movies were added to the list of flicks exclusively streamed via Hulu . The agreement was announced on Tuesday and has been made available to Hulu paid subscribers. This marks the first time that the Disney theatrical flicks will be available to Hulu subscribers considering the fact that Disney has been a part owner of the streaming service since the year 2009.
Some of the Disney theatrical films to be streamed in Hulu are “Muppet Treasure Island,” “Pocahontas,” “Sister Act,” “Mulan,” “Lilo & Stitch,” “The Mighty Ducks,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” and “The Emperor’s New Groove.” The exclusive distribution to some of the flicks is also part of the deal.
Additional Disney movies such as “Step Up,” “The Princess and the Frog” and many more in the next months. The focus of the Disney-Hulu deal is on family movies.
Aside from adding more movies to their catalog, Hulu is also set to launch a TV streaming service with live content from networks like ESPN, FX, Fox, ABC, and more. No other details about this project has been released but Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins said that they are building a service that offers the most sought-after programming on television. They are also working on older movies to be part of their catalog.
Hulu has been trying to expand their offers to attract and retain customers due to the rivals such as Amazon.com and Netflix. This particular deal of Hulu and Netflix would be an edge since many parents want children to watch streamed programming since there are no advertisements or commercial messages.
Hulu has other films from Warner Bros., Lionsgate , Universal Pictures, Sony Pictures, and Paramount Pictures. The company is owned by Time Warner Inc., NBCUniversal , Disney, and 21st Century Fox.
