Providence, RI, United States (4E) – Former New England Patriots defensive lineman, Frank Kearse , was reportedly stabbed by his girlfriend during a domestic dispute.
Kearse was treated at two hospitals for a knife wound to the upper abdomen.
His girlfriend was identified as 26-year-old Dominique Hooper.
Kearse originally told authorities that he suffered from the stab wound when he was moving a box that contained several knives. The former NFL player noted that one of the knives cut through the box then punctured his abdomen.
Hooper verified Kearse’s initial version of the story. However, she reportedly changed her version of events after investigators questioned her and they started to doubt the former story. Hooper allegedly admitted to investigators that she brandished a knife and told police that Kearse raised a cardboard box in an attempt to defend himself. Despite his efforts, he was still injured by the knife.
Hooper was arrested and appeared in court. She pleaded innocent to charges of domestic assault and battery and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon. Hooper is now out after posting a $1,000 bail.
It is unclear if Hooper and Kearse are still together and what is the condition of the former NFL player now.
Kearse appeared in four games for Washington last season. He also signed with the New England Patriots in March. He was, however, placed on season-ending injured reserve with undisclosed injury.
Kearse is yet to comment on the matter.
