Orlando, FL, United States (4E) – Christina Grimmie was shot and killed earlier this year while she was signing autographs during an event in Orlando, Florida after a man, who is said to be obsessed with her, got near her and fired his gun.

The family of “The Voice” former contestant recently filed a lawsuit against the venue, a promotional company, for failing to provide security that could have prevented the death of Grimmie . The lawsuit was filed on Tuesday against AEG Live and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra Plaza Foundation.

Grimmie , 22, was shot to death after giving a concert last June. The man was identified as 27-year-old Kevin Loible . He was form St. Petersburg and he killed himself after shooting Grimmie . Police have never uncovered the motive of Loible but it is believed that he was a deranged fan.

The parents of Grimmie , Albert and Tina, as well as the brother of the singer, Marcus, were the petitioners in the lawsuit. They noted that only bag checks were done during the event where Grimmie was signing autographs. The attendees were also not subjected to body pat downs. Loible had two handguns with him and two magazines as well as a knife during the attack. A metal detector was also not installed in the area.

The lawyer for Grimmie’s family said in a statement, “No amount of money will bring Christina back. We believe that those parties who contributed to Christina’s untimely death should be held responsible for their conduct or failure to act. We are hopeful that our lawsuit will bring widespread attention to the issue of concert security and safety and that more effective safeguards will be implemented to protect performers and attendees at concerts around the United States in the future.”

The lawsuit requests a recovery of the future support that Grimmie would have provided her family, the projected income she would have earned, the medical and funeral expenses, and the damages for mental pain regarding her brother since he witnessed the death of his sister. A jury trial is being demanded by the family of Grimmie .

The death of Grimmie came days before a gunman opened fire at a gay club also in Orlando, Florida.
