Chicago, IL, United States (4E Sports) – Chicago Bulls star Dwyane Wade mourned the death of his cousin on the South Side, saying she was a victim of “senseless gun violence”.

According to authorities, Nykea Aldridge , 32, was walking her children to school to get them registered when two men came and fired shots at a third man Friday.

“My cousin was killed today in Chicago. Another act of senseless gun violence. 4 kids lost their mom for NO REASON. Unreal,” Wade said on his Twitter account.

The victim, a mother of four, recently moved to the neighborhood. Wade, for his part, returned to his hometown by signing last month with the Bulls.

Three “persons of interest” were questioned by police in connection with the shooting but had no suspects in custody.

During an appearance in a forum, Wade addressed “deep-rooted” divides in the community.

“We kinda adopted that mentality that, you know, it’s about me surviving,” Wade said, discussing Chicago’s history. “It’s important for all of us to help each other.”

Wade also urged an end to gun violence when he appeared with LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul to open the ESPYS with a call for social change.

“The endless gun violence in places like Chicago, Dallas, not to mention Orlando, it has to stop. Enough. Enough is enough,” he said.
